KOSGEB lists the 17th IIFME invention fair in Kuwait, how can patent holding SMEs apply?
The 17th International Invention Fair in the Middle East, IIFME, takes place in Kuwait on 31 January – 3 February 2027, with applications sent by e-mail to [email protected] (KOSGEB, updated 18 August 2026). KOSGEB is Türkiye’s Small and Medium Enterprises Development Organization. The fair is open to universities, public bodies, private companies, patent offices, investors and young inventors, but the announcement states no application deadline and no KOSGEB participation support.
What it means for you: an SME with an invention can put its product in front of Gulf investors and manufacturers. The registration page on the fair’s website, however, requires the primary inventor to be the person named on the patent certificate who will attend the exhibition in person. So the first question is not the stand; it is the status of your industrial property registration.
When and where is IIFME 2027 held, and who organises it?
The fair runs on 31 January – 3 February 2027 in Kuwait; the KOSGEB announcement does not name a venue. According to KOSGEB, the Kuwait Science Club has run the fair since 2007. The fair’s own website lists the Higher Committee for the International Invention Exhibition in the Middle East as organiser. Both names belong in the picture, so confirm in writing which body you are dealing with.

Can an SME without a patent certificate apply to IIFME?
According to the fair’s website, the primary inventor must be the person named on the patent certificate who will attend the exhibition. An invention without a certificate does not meet that rule for a primary inventor entry. Whether inventions with a pending patent application are accepted is not clear in the source. Ask the organiser before you register.
How do the IIFME registration steps work?
Registration runs in four steps: prepare the patent certificate, fill in the online form on the fair’s website, contact the organiser at the e-mail address KOSGEB gives, and read the fee files to choose a package. The FAQ section of the fair’s website shows sample package fees. Because those figures are given as examples and their validity for 2027 is unconfirmed, they are not repeated here.

Which businesses does IIFME affect, and how?
The most direct effect falls on manufacturing SMEs that already hold a patent certificate and on technology ventures born in universities. In autumn 2026, for a Turkish producer that wants to commercialise an invention, Kuwait is a door to Gulf investors. Patent offices and schools are part of the target audience too; the fair is open to the whole invention ecosystem, not just companies.
How should an invention’s website and search visibility be prepared before IIFME?
An investor you meet at the fair searches for your invention’s name back at the hotel that evening. If the results show no English product page, patent number or short demo video, interest fades right there. Digital preparation is the unseen second half of your stand, and it deserves as much care as the prototype.
What should an inventor SME do this week to prepare for IIFME?
The first job is to open the patent certificate and confirm the primary inventor. Then come three steps: e-mail [email protected] asking about the closing date and fees, review the registration form on the fair’s website, and open an English presentation page for the invention. Asking about Ministry of Trade fair support scope is also on the list.

Sık Sorulan Sorular
As of 13 October 2026 the fair is still ahead, so the window has not closed. The registration closing date, though, appears neither in the KOSGEB announcement nor on the fair’s registration page. You need to get that date from the organiser in writing.
The KOSGEB announcement gives [email protected] for applications. The contact section on the fair’s website shows [email protected] instead. Sending your application to the KOSGEB address and copying the other cuts the risk of your message going astray.
The KOSGEB announcement mentions no participation support; the page is for information. You can read the official text in KOSGEB’s IIFME announcement. Türkiye’s Ministry of Trade supports participation in fairs abroad under Decree 2017/4; whether IIFME falls within that scheme needs separate confirmation.
The primary inventor is the person named on the certificate who will stand at the booth. Other team members register in the system as Co-Inventors. When applying on behalf of a company, first check whose name is written on the certificate.
The source only mentions a patent certificate; it says nothing separate about utility model or design registrations. If your document is one of those, ask in writing whether it will be accepted. Buying tickets on an assumption puts your money at risk, and if you are turned down the invention stays in the drawer.
Here’s something most people don’t know: industrial property rights appear among the service purchase items of Business Development Support within the KOSGEB Entrepreneur Support Programme. We cover that support’s eligibility terms in our Business Development Support eligibility piece. Do not confuse fair participation with that item.
The form is built around the primary inventor’s details and a description of the invention based on the patent certificate. Co-inventors are added on separate lines. Writing the invention’s name exactly as it appears on the certificate avoids snags at the checking stage.
The fair’s website has downloadable fee files, and the application deadline may be in them too. Before paying anything, confirm the current fee and what it covers in writing.
It is safer not to buy tickets before registration is confirmed. Once it is, check the rules for flying with samples, prototypes and promotional material. An invention without a prototype leaves the stand empty, and visitors walk away.
An SME with a working prototype, a complete certificate and a search for licensing or production partners is best placed. With investors and manufacturers in the fair’s target audience, the ground is laid for licensing talks.
A business whose patent process is unfinished, which has no prototype or no English presentation file, will struggle. However good the invention, without the certificate the file just gathers dust. For a workshop with an already tight R&D budget, the travel cost is a separate burden.
Patent attorneys, technical translators and prototype workshops may see demand before the fair. The young inventor category also means schools and education bodies need to prepare.
Keep the problem the invention solves, its technical edge, the patent details and a contact form on one page. An image showing the product in use is grasped faster than a technical drawing. State clearly whether you offer licensing, partnership or sale.
Splitting post-fair visits by country and source shows which contact brings in business. When the invention name and the company name lead to the same page in search, it builds trust.
Not before the fair; a short LinkedIn post adds one more channel for meeting requests. It is more efficient to set the ad budget after the fair, according to the markets that showed interest.
Ask about the registration closing date, 2027 fees, whether inventions at the patent application stage are accepted and the stand size. A similar example of preparing for a fair abroad is in our Tunisia SAPRI2026 piece.
Put the invention’s production cost, target market and possible licensing model in a one-page summary. Investors ask about unit cost and profit margin, so have the answer ready. Take a draft non-disclosure agreement with you too.
Log every meeting and send follow-up e-mails before fair week is over. A licensing or sales offer from abroad needs customs, payment and contract terms weighed together. We build that process with clients through our foreign trade consultancy.
The KOSGEB announcement mentions no participation support. Whether Ministry of Trade support for fairs abroad covers this fair needs separate confirmation.
The fair’s website requires the primary inventor to be named on the patent certificate; the status of inventions still at application stage is not clear in the source. Ask the organiser in writing before registering.
Neither the KOSGEB announcement nor the fair’s registration page states a deadline. Request the date in writing from [email protected].
