What Does Social Media Management Cost? Line-by-Line Hours and Pricing Logic

What Does Social Media Management Cost? Line-by-Line Hours and Pricing Logic
💡 Kısaca: Social media management has no single price, and anyone who quotes one without asking about your content volume is guessing.

Social media management has no single price, and anyone who quotes one without asking about your content volume is guessing. The honest answer is built from hours across six lines: strategy and planning, design, video editing, copy, publishing and community, and reporting. Multiply your monthly content count by the hours each item takes, apply a channel multiplier, add the fixed hours that do not scale with volume, and multiply the total by an hourly rate. The advertising budget never belongs in that number.

That method works whether you hire in-house, use a freelancer or buy an agency package in 2026. Say you run a thirty-room boutique hotel in Antalya and you want two channels covered properly. The arithmetic below gives you a defensible monthly figure before you ask a single supplier for a quote, and it tells you exactly which line a cheaper quote has quietly removed.

Six cost lines in social media management, from strategy and planning to reporting, with ad budget kept apart.
Six lines of work, plus a separate ad row
WHY

Why the answer is hours and not a monthly figure

BU BÖLÜMÜN ÖZETİ

  • A quote hides the hours, and the hours are the product
  • The one input nobody can price for you
  • Advertising money behaves differently

A monthly figure tells you what to pay. Hours tell you what you are buying. Two quotes can sit within a few percent of each other while one includes video editing and the other does not, and you will only find out in month three. Converting every quote back into hours is the one comparison that works across freelancers, agencies and your own payroll.

A quote hides the hours, and the hours are the product

Social media management is labor. Nothing is manufactured and nothing is licensed. When you buy it, you are buying somebody’s attention for a number of hours, so that number is the only thing worth negotiating.

The one input nobody can price for you

Your hourly rate depends on who does the work. An in-house junior, a senior freelancer and an agency team sit at very different rates in the same city. Every calculation below leaves that rate blank on purpose.

Advertising money behaves differently

Management hours produce assets. Ad budget buys distribution, and it disappears the moment you stop paying. Keeping them in one row is how a brand ends up believing it spent money on content when it spent money on reach.

THE

The six lines every social media cost is made of

BU BÖLÜMÜN ÖZETİ

  • Strategy, planning and reporting are the fixed hours
  • Design, video editing and copy scale with item count
  • Publishing and community scale with channels

Break any quote into these six lines before you compare it to anything. Strategy and planning, design, video editing, copy, publishing and community, and reporting. Two of them are fixed each month regardless of volume. Three scale directly with how many items you produce. One scales with how many channels you run rather than how much you make.

Strategy, planning and reporting are the fixed hours

Calendar building, the monthly plan, the report and the review meeting. These stay roughly constant whether you publish eight posts or twenty-four. They are also the first lines a cheap quote deletes.

Break any quote into these six lines before you compare it to anything.

Design, video editing and copy scale with item count

Each post costs a measurable slice of design, editing or writing time. A static graphic and a ninety-second edited video are not the same item, so they get different unit hours. Video editing is almost always the largest single line.

Publishing and community scale with channels

Scheduling, platform-specific cropping, captions, comment replies and inbox triage. Doubling your channels roughly doubles this line even if your content count stays flat. The daily rhythm behind it is set out in how to manage social media.

THE

The formula: content count, unit hours, channel multiplier, fixed hours

BU BÖLÜMÜN ÖZETİ

  • Unit hours: what one item actually takes
  • The channel multiplier: the second channel is not double
  • Fixed hours: the part volume does not touch

Write it on one line and keep it. Monthly hours equal content count multiplied by unit hours multiplied by the channel multiplier, plus fixed hours. Then multiply monthly hours by your hourly rate. Every variable in that sentence is something you can check against reality in a month, which is exactly why it beats a flat quote you cannot audit.

Unit hours: what one item actually takes

Time three real items before you accept anyone’s estimate. A static graphic with copy, a carousel, a short edited video. You will find video runs several times a static post, and that single ratio drives most of your budget.

The channel multiplier: the second channel is not double

Repeating one idea on a second channel costs a fraction of making it the first time, because the thinking is already done. Use 1.0 for one channel, around 1.3 for two, around 1.6 for three. Those are starting multipliers you should correct from your own timesheets.

Fixed hours: the part volume does not touch

Planning, reporting and the review conversation. Treat this as a floor. Below that floor the work still happens somewhere, usually unpaid and usually badly, and the first symptom is a month with no report.

A worked example, with your rate left blank

BU BÖLÜMÜN ÖZETİ

  • How to read the example
  • Fill in your own rate, then sanity-check it
  • One published reference point for working time

The table below is a worked example. The item counts and unit hours are illustrative, chosen to show the arithmetic for a two-channel month at a thirty-room hotel. Copy the method, not the numbers, and time your own items before you trust any line. The hourly rate column stays empty because only you know who is doing the work.

A worked example of monthly social media hours by line, with the hourly rate column left blank for the reader.
Hours first, rate second, total last
Worked example, illustrative counts and unit hours only
Line Items per month Unit hours Channel multiplier Monthly hours Your rate
Strategy and planning (fixed) 1 plan 4.0 — 4.0 ___
Copy 12 posts 0.5 1.3 7.8 ___
Design 8 graphics 1.0 1.3 10.4 ___
Video editing 4 short videos 3.0 1.3 15.6 ___
Publishing and community 2 channels 5.0 — 10.0 ___
Reporting and review (fixed) 1 report 3.0 — 3.0 ___
Total — — — 50.8 × your rate

How to read the example

Roughly fifty hours covers two channels, twelve posts and four short videos. Video editing alone is about a third of it. Remove the videos and the month drops by fifteen hours, which is the clearest lever you have.

Fill in your own rate, then sanity-check it

Multiply fifty hours by the rate of whoever will really do the work. If the result is far above what you can carry, cut the video count first and the channel count second. Never cut planning or reporting.

One published reference point for working time

As a public example of pricing by hours rather than deliverables, Adapte Dijital’s AINEO packages quote working time in VERNIS, where one VERNIS equals 4,000 TL of focused net working time. It is a reference point for the logic, not a price for a single social media service. No honest supplier can price one service without knowing your content count.

KEEP

Keep the advertising budget in its own row

BU BÖLÜMÜN ÖZETİ

  • Why mixing them hides the failure
  • Decide the split as a share, not a feeling
  • When ad money starts eating the hours

Put ad spend on a separate line in the same sheet, never inside the management figure. Management hours create and run the content. Ad money buys reach for it. Mixing the two hides which half failed when a month goes badly, and it makes every future comparison between suppliers impossible to read.

Why mixing them hides the failure

If reach fell, you need to know whether the content got worse or the budget got smaller. One number cannot answer that. Two rows answer it in ten seconds.

Put ad spend on a separate line in the same sheet, never inside the management figure.

Decide the split as a share, not a feeling

The ratio question deserves its own calculation rather than a rule of thumb repeated here. Work it out from revenue using the method in marketing visibility budget, then hold the split for a quarter.

When ad money starts eating the hours

If you have ever paid for ads in a month where no new content was made, the budget is covering for a production gap. Fix the hours. Paid reach on weak content is the most expensive way to learn that.

WHAT

What moves the number most, in order

BU BÖLÜMÜN ÖZETİ

  • Video count, then approval rounds
  • Channel count and language count
  • What to ask before you sign anything

Four things change a social media cost more than anything else. Video count, approval rounds, channel count and language count. Notice what is missing from that list: follower count. Audience size changes what the work is worth, not what it costs, and quotes that scale with followers are pricing your success rather than their labor.

Video count, then approval rounds

Each short edited video is worth several static posts in hours. Each extra approval round adds rework across every item at once. Two named approvers and one revision round is a sane standing rule. If the video line is the one breaking your budget, the trade-offs are set out in ai video vs production.

Four things change a social media cost more than anything else.

Channel count and language count

A second channel adds roughly a third. A second language adds a full copy and review pass on every item, so it behaves more like a second production line than a translation task.

What to ask before you sign anything

Ask for the hours per line, who does each line, and how many revision rounds are included. Google’s own guidance on hiring a search specialist makes the same point for search work: ask what results are expected and in what timeframe, and be wary of anyone guaranteeing an outcome. Market-level ranges sit in digital marketing pricing.

What moves social media management cost most: video count, approval rounds, channels and languages, not followers.
Follower count is not a cost driver

Common mistake: comparing two monthly quotes without converting either one into hours per line. The cheaper quote has usually removed video editing, reporting or both, so you are comparing a full month of work against a publishing service. Ask both suppliers for the six lines and the hours, then compare.

Build the six-line sheet this week, time three of your own content items, and fill the hours before you fill the rate. Our visibility work is quoted the same way, in hours per line. For how social sits beside the other delivery lines, see visibility services.

Sık Sorulan Sorular

How much does social media management cost per month?

There is no single figure, because the cost is hours multiplied by a rate. Calculate monthly hours as content count times unit hours times a channel multiplier, plus the fixed planning and reporting hours. A two-channel month with twelve posts and four short videos lands near fifty hours as a worked example, and your own rate turns that into a number.

Should the advertising budget be part of the management fee?

No. Keep management hours and ad spend as two separate rows in the same sheet. Management creates and runs the content, while ad money buys reach and disappears when you stop paying. One combined number makes it impossible to tell which half caused a bad month.

What makes one quote so much cheaper than another?

Usually a missing line rather than a better rate. Video editing and reporting are the two lines removed most often, and together they can be close to half the hours. Ask every supplier for hours per line, who performs each line, and how many revision rounds are included.
