💡 Kısaca: Showing up in near me searches means meeting Google’s three criteria: relevance, distance and prominence.

Showing up in near me searches means meeting Google’s three criteria: relevance, distance and prominence. You cannot change distance, because your shop stays where it is. You can raise relevance and prominence with a verified, complete Business Profile, the right category, current opening hours and replies to every review.

In Beylikdüzü, on the European side of İstanbul, someone picks up a phone in the evening and types “hairdresser near me”. Three or four businesses appear. There may be five hairdressers on the same street, yet only three or four make that short list. Neighbourhood visibility is the work of getting onto it, and in 2026 it is the cheapest customer door a small shop has.

HOW

How does a near me search work in Beylikdüzü?

The search starts from where the phone is. If the customer does not share a location, Google uses what it knows about where they are. That is why someone searching in Yakuplu and someone searching in Gürpınar see different lists for the same words. The list is built around the searcher; if your shop falls inside that circle, you are in the race.

The wider the circle, the more rivals you face

Distance is measured from the phone in the customer’s pocket

Your address is fixed; the searcher moves. An office worker searching in Kavaklı at lunch and a parent searching in Cumhuriyet in the evening see different maps.

The two sides of the E-5 work like two markets

Our own observation: in Beylikdüzü, customers do not cross easily between the north and the south of the E-5 highway. A shop near Beylikdüzü Sondurak, the last metrobus stop, speaks to a different pool of customers than a shop down by the coast.

WHICH

Which 3 criteria does Google use to rank local results?

BU BÖLÜMÜN ÖZETİ

  • Relevance: how well your profile matches
  • Distance: the one criterion you cannot change
  • Prominence: how well the neighbourhood knows you

According to the Google Business Profile help page, local results are based on relevance, distance and prominence. Relevance is how well a profile matches the search. Distance is how far the business is from the searcher. Prominence is how well known the business is. The same page states that there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking.

Relevance: how well your profile matches

A “hairdresser near me” search favours a profile whose category is hairdresser and whose services list haircuts. An incomplete profile fails to match, even when the customer uses the right words.

Distance: the one criterion you cannot change

Short of moving the shop, distance stays put. What you can do is make sure the address and the map pin sit in the right place.

Prominence: how well the neighbourhood knows you

Review count, positive ratings and mentions of your name across the web feed prominence.

WHICH

Which 6 profile fields must be complete?

BU BÖLÜMÜN ÖZETİ

  • Wrong hours send customers to a closed shutter
  • Photos are your shop window online
  • Setup steps live in a separate guide

To be visible in your neighbourhood, six profile fields must be complete: primary category, address or service area, opening hours, phone, photos and services list. These six fields are the base of the relevance criterion. If one is empty, Google struggles to match you with the search and someone else takes your place on the short list.

  1. Primary category: the narrowest category that describes your work correctly.
  2. Address or service area: an address if you have a shop, an area if you go to customers.
  3. Opening hours: current, including religious and public holidays.
  4. Phone: a number that is answered, ideally the same as your WhatsApp.
  5. Photos: the sign, the door, the inside and the work you do.
  6. Services list: written in the words your customers use.

Wrong hours send customers to a closed shutter

A shop that shows open on Sunday but is closed loses both the customer and the next review. Check your hours before every holiday.

To be visible in your neighbourhood, six profile fields must be complete: primary category, address or service area, opening hours, phone, photos and services list.

Photos are your shop window online

Customers want to see inside before they walk past the door. A photo of the sign, the entrance and the work answers “is it open, is it clean, do they do what I need” at a glance. A profile without photos looks like a shop with its shutter half down.

Setup steps live in a separate guide

Opening and verifying a profile from scratch is explained step by step in the six-step setup guide.

WHAT

What does a customer searching on a phone look at?

A customer on a phone is in a hurry: they look at the map, the rating and the call button. In our own Search Console data, 1,267 of 1,699 clicks between 14 June and 13 September 2026 came from mobile. The mobile click-through rate is 1.86 percent, against 0.57 percent on desktop. In local search, it is fair to assume the customer reaches for the phone first as well.

Three quarters of clicks come from a pocket

These are our figures; yours may differ. The direction is the same: customers see you on a phone screen first, and desktop comes second.

Call and directions should be one tap away

The phone on your profile, the contact buttons on your site and the directions link should all give the same information. You can weigh which channel to prioritise in our guide to which channel you need.

WHY

Why is the shop next door on the list and you are not?

Most of the time the reason is simple: the profile is not verified, the category is wrong or reviews go unanswered. The shop next door has done these three things and you have not. The full list of reasons is in the piece on six reasons you are missing from the map.

When address and service area get mixed up

If a plumber who visits homes shows only an address, customers cannot tell whether he comes to other neighbourhoods. Define the neighbourhoods you serve as your service area.

Most of the time the reason is simple: the profile is not verified, the category is wrong or reviews go unanswered.

An unanswered review is a customer left waiting at the door

Google lists replying to reviews among its tips for local visibility. A calm, short reply even to a bad review reassures the next customer who reads it.

Say you run a hair salon in Yakuplu, one street back from the main road. Your profile is verified, but the category is “beauty salon”, there are no photos and the last review is three months old. When you switch the category to hairdresser, list your services, add photos and reply to every review, you feed both relevance and prominence at once.

  5. Write the services list in your customers’ words.
  6. Reply to every review within 48 hours.

The Website Recipe fits this job

The campaign’s Website Recipe sets up a mobile-friendly sales page, contact buttons, Google Business Profile, basic SEO and visitor tracking together. The broader frame of packages is in our guide to what a small business should buy in its first three months.

Ads do not replace local ranking

The Google Ads Recipe adds speed, but ads are a separate space. Local ranking cannot be bought, and the ad budget is not included in the package; it is paid to Google separately.

Find out which recipe fits your neighbourhood. Fill in the needs form on the Get Visible Online campaign page and start a 3-month period at a fixed TRY 36,000 + VAT.

What is included in the package?

You choose one of three recipes. The Website Recipe covers a mobile-friendly sales page, contact buttons, Google Business Profile, basic SEO and visitor tracking. The Google Ads and Meta Ads recipes cover setup, campaigns and conversion tracking.

Can I pay to rank higher in near me results?

No. Google states clearly that there is no way to pay for a better local ranking. Ads appear in a separate space, and their budget is paid to Google separately.

I have no shop and I serve customers at home. Can I still show up?

Yes. You can hide your address on the profile and define the areas you serve. That way customers can see which districts you come to.
