Turkish Buyers Now Decide From Reviews, Not Advertising — Adapte Dijital cover image
💡 Kısaca: Turkish consumers are now making purchase decisions from other buyers’ reviews rather than from advertising.

Turkish consumers are now making purchase decisions from other buyers’ reviews rather than from advertising. In a study conducted by NielsenIQ for the Turkish furniture federation, user reviews and videos emerged as the most influential decision source at 59 per cent, while influencer content reached only 14 per cent. Coverage led on a finding about instalment demand; the more consequential result is that gap: the channel absorbing the budget and the channel deciding the sale have separated.

The research ran between 16 June and 13 July 2026 across 26 provinces in 12 statistical regions, surveying 1,600 consumers aged 25 to 55 with decision-making authority over furniture purchases. The sample is not a narrow metropolitan slice; it is built to represent the country.

The category is furniture, but the behaviour is not category-specific. For international brands selling into Turkey, and for anyone assessing Turkish consumer demand, this dataset describes how the market now reaches a decision — and where marketing spend is landing in the wrong place.

WHAT

What Happened

BU BÖLÜMÜN ÖZETİ

  • Reviews overtook advertising
  • Influencer content underperformed expectations
  • Artificial intelligence has entered the process
  • Research online, decision in store

The federation published its 2026 consumer behaviour study on 14 August. Four findings stand out.

Reviews overtook advertising

The most influential source in the purchase decision was user reviews and videos at 59 per cent. Among content that increases purchase intent, reviews again led at 68 per cent, followed by store windows at 65 per cent and television advertising at 64 per cent.

Influencer content underperformed expectations

Influencer material reached 14 per cent as a decision source, and only 24 per cent among intent-raising content. Consumers are distinguishing paid recommendation from unpaid experience and trusting the latter.

Artificial intelligence has entered the process

One consumer in five, 21 per cent, uses AI tools when shopping for furniture. Among those, 59 per cent use them for decoration suggestions, 57 per cent for room visualisation, 53 per cent for product recommendations and 49 per cent for price comparison.

Research online, decision in store

94 per cent use at least one digital source during research, against 70 per cent using physical sources. Brands’ own websites lead digital research at 45 per cent. The journey begins on a screen and concludes in a showroom.

WHAT

What the Numbers Mean

BU BÖLÜMÜN ÖZETİ

  • 90 per cent compare prices
  • The brand’s own site remains first contact
  • The trust gap sits after the sale
  • Instalment demand is a signal

Individually these figures look ordinary. Placed side by side, they describe a changed marketing order.

90 per cent compare prices

Nine consumers in ten compare prices before purchase. Your price does not live on the label in your showroom; it is assessed on a screen where competitors sit in adjacent tabs. Refusing comparison means losing the comparison.

The brand’s own site remains first contact

At 45 per cent, a brand’s website leads marketplaces and social platforms in digital research. Consumers verify with the brand itself. A weak site leaves the most-visited window empty.

The trust gap sits after the sale

55 per cent completed their last purchase without incident, meaning 45 per cent encountered a problem. Delivery delay led at 14 per cent, inadequate after-sales support at 13 per cent, installation issues at 12 per cent. In a review economy these rates do not stay private — every poor delivery is a future review.

Instalment demand is a signal

The twelve-month instalment expectation that gave the coverage its headline measures purchasing-power pressure. Consumers are not abandoning the category; they rank it above cars in spending priority but want payment spread over time. Payment flexibility is now a precondition rather than a campaign.

WHO

Who This Affects, and How

BU BÖLÜMÜN ÖZETİ

  • Those who gain
  • Those who lose
  • Those largely unaffected
  • The indirect chain

The study covered furniture; the findings concern anyone whose customers research online.

Those who gain

Businesses that have systematised review collection, keep their delivery and installation commitments, and publish price and product information openly. They supply evidence at every point where the consumer seeks reassurance, and the most influential channel works for them at no cost.

The study covered furniture; the findings concern anyone whose customers research online.

Those who lose

Businesses concentrating budget on influencer partnerships and production shoots while leaving reviews unanswered and websites underbuilt. Spending 80 per cent of a budget on a channel with 14 per cent influence is the most expensive error the study describes.

Those largely unaffected

Manufacturers working solely through tenders or a single buyer, with no end-consumer contact, are untouched today. Where a dealer, distributor or white-label customer sells onward, the review economy reaches them one step later.

The indirect chain

A dealer with a falling review score sells less; a dealer selling less orders less from the manufacturer. A delivery delayed by a logistics provider is recorded against the furniture retailer. Everyone in the chain is being scored on a screen they never see.

WHAT

What to Do About It

BU BÖLÜMÜN ÖZETİ

  • Do not leave reviews to chance
  • Turn your site into a comparison tool
  • Make the delivery promise part of the marketing
  • Be visible to AI tools

Four findings translate into four concrete tasks. None requires significant budget; all require order.

Do not leave reviews to chance

A message sent three days after delivery invites a satisfied customer to write. Securing reviews from three of ten monthly sales builds an evidence archive that outpaces most competitors within a year. A resolution-focused reply to a negative review within 24 hours is a reply written to the hundreds who read it.

Turn your site into a comparison tool

Consumers are comparing regardless; the question is whether they do it on your page. Dimensions, materials, delivery times and prices should be explicit. Asking buyers to call for a price, in a market where 90 per cent compare, means the tab closes.

Make the delivery promise part of the marketing

The top three problems are delivery, support and installation. A measurable commitment — delivery in 28 days, installation included, a discount if late — removes a purchase objection and prevents negative reviews at source.

Be visible to AI tools

One consumer in five researches with AI tools and that share will only grow. These systems assemble recommendations from clear, structured content that answers questions directly. If your pages do not answer the question, your competitors appear in the recommendation.

THE

The Digital Side

BU BÖLÜMÜN ÖZETİ

  • Answer engine visibility is no longer theoretical
  • Content strategy should be fed by reviews
  • Review management is an operational function
  • What is not measured cannot be managed

The shift this study describes brings three separate disciplines to the same table.

Answer engine visibility is no longer theoretical

Being visible to AI tools has become a measurable consumer behaviour rather than a forecast. Structuring product pages around questions and answers opens the door to a growing fifth of the market.

The shift this study describes brings three separate disciplines to the same table.

Content strategy should be fed by reviews

The questions recurring in your reviews are the headlines for your next piece of content. Reading reviews is free keyword research. For businesses building that loop, this is the most productive step in an e-commerce consulting engagement.

Review management is an operational function

Collecting, responding and remedying now belong to sales operations rather than public relations. Without a weekly routine the work becomes something done when there is time, which means never.

What is not measured cannot be managed

Review volume, average score, response time and traffic arriving via reviews should be reported quarterly. Most businesses that know their advertising spend to the lira hold no single figure for their most influential channel.

BÖLÜM 06

A Solid Digital Foundation

BU BÖLÜMÜN ÖZETİ

  • A review is data a machine reads
  • Site speed is the threshold of comparison
  • Product data should flow from one source
  • A solid foundation carries every wave

Being visible in a review economy takes more than collecting reviews; the reviews and product data must also be readable by search systems.

A review is data a machine reads

Scores and reviews on your page, correctly marked up, appear as stars in search results; unmarked, they are visible only to someone who has already opened the page. The difference is click-through rate. Structured data criteria are defined in the Google Search Central documentation.

Being visible in a review economy takes more than collecting reviews; the reviews and product data must also be readable by search systems.

Site speed is the threshold of comparison

On a site opened alongside competitors’ tabs, a three-second delay means never entering the comparison. The brand site that 45 per cent visit first also has to be the quickest to load.

Product data should flow from one source

A consumer seeing one price on the site, another on a marketplace and a third on the receipt trusts none of them. Managing product names, dimensions and prices centrally is the technical half of closing the trust gap.

A solid foundation carries every wave

The review economy is this year’s wave; another behaviour will lead next. A business with its technical base, content order and measurement habit in place meets each wave from the same footing. How that foundation is built is set out in our approach to digital consulting.

FREQUENTLY

Frequently Asked Questions

Sık Sorulan Sorular

Do these findings apply outside furniture?

The study surveyed furniture buyers, but price comparison, review influence and the research-online-decide-in-store pattern behave similarly across considered, infrequent purchases.

Should we abandon influencer partnerships?

No, but the role changes. Influencer content is an awareness channel rather than a decision channel. Budget weighting should move towards reviews and your own site.

Can we pay customers for reviews?

Incentivising reviews in exchange for purchase breaches platform rules and permanently damages trust when discovered. The reliable route is asking buyers promptly through a simple flow.

Can negative reviews be removed?

Genuine reviews without rule violations are not taken down. The effective move is a calm, prompt, solution-focused reply; readers judge the response rather than the complaint.

Can we advertise our way into AI recommendations?

Most recommendation engines carry no purchasable placement. Visibility is earned through clear product information, question-and-answer structure and technically readable pages.

Is this manageable for a small business?

The review request, the speed check and a monthly measurement sheet can be run by one person. Structured data and multi-channel product management are where external support shortens the timeline.
