Enterprise website ownership in Turkey: what the TÜİK numbers really say
Enterprise website ownership in Turkey stands at 56.5 percent. According to TÜİK’s ICT Usage Survey in Enterprises 2025, about 56 of every 100 enterprises with at least 10 employees have a website. Among small enterprises with 10 to 49 employees the rate drops to 52.4 percent, so almost half of small firms have no site at all.
These figures do not cover micro businesses with 1 to 9 employees, which means most neighbourhood shops are left out. The barber who rolls up the shutter each morning, the bakery and the plumber sit outside this table. Let us read TÜİK’s latest published figures one by one; each number comes with a one-line comment.
How many enterprises in Türkiye have a website?
BU BÖLÜMÜN ÖZETİ
- A 4.7-point rise in one year
- Who the figure covers
- Survey year and data year can differ
According to TÜİK’s 2025 survey, the share of enterprises with a website is 56.5 percent. A year earlier, the figure stands at 51.8 percent. As of October 2026, this is the most recent website figure we could reach; the public summary of the bulletin released in September 2026 does not include a website rate.

A 4.7-point rise in one year
Going from 51.8 to 56.5 percent is a 4.7-point rise in a single year. Comment: a website is no longer a big-company tool; it is ordinary for more than half of enterprises.
Who the figure covers
The survey covers enterprises with at least 10 employees. Comment: the picture for one-person shops may be further behind, but this survey has no official figure for them.
Survey year and data year can differ
TÜİK runs this survey every year and releases the results around September. Some questions describe the survey year, while others, such as e-sales, describe the previous calendar year. Comment: noting which year a figure belongs to prevents a misleading comparison.
How far does the rate fall as firms get smaller?
Every digital indicator falls as firm size shrinks. Website ownership is 92.5 percent in enterprises with 250 or more employees, 73.1 percent with 50 to 249, and 52.4 percent with 10 to 49. That 40-point gap shows, in a single line, where small businesses stand online.
| Indicator | 10-49 staff | 50-249 staff | 250+ staff | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Website ownership (2025) | 52.4% | 73.1% | 92.5% | 56.5% |
| Social media use (2026) | 55.0% | 68.4% | 86.6% | 57.7% |
| E-sales (year 2025) | 16.4% | 18.3% | 29.7% | 17.1% |
| AI use (2026) | 12.8% | 17.0% | 37.1% | 14.0% |
In small firms it is a coin toss
52.4 percent of enterprises with 10 to 49 employees have a site. Comment: whether your competitor has a website is close to a coin toss, so having one puts you ahead.
In large firms a website is the rule
Among enterprises with 250 or more employees, the rate is 92.5 percent. Comment: for a big company a website is not up for debate; for a small business it is still a decision.
Why has social media overtaken the website?
The share of enterprises using social media is 57.7 percent in the 2026 survey, 55.2 percent in 2025 and 34.6 percent in 2021. Social media now sits ahead of the 56.5 percent website rate. Opening an account is free and fast; a website takes a decision, a budget and upkeep. To many shopkeepers, social media feels like a shop window and a website like a shop they own.
A 23-point jump in five years
From 2021 to 2026, social media use climbs from 34.6 to 57.7 percent. Comment: businesses reach for the easiest way to get to customers.
Easy to open, hard to turn into sales
Follower count is not money in the till. You can read about that gap in our guide for businesses with followers but no sales.

What share of enterprises sell online?
According to TÜİK’s 2026 survey, 17.1 percent of enterprises made e-sales in 2025, up from 13.6 percent the year before. In other words, the number of firms selling online is close to a third of those with a website. There is a wide gap between owning a site and selling through one.
Most sellers use marketplaces
According to the 2025 survey, 80.4 percent of enterprises selling over the web use marketplaces and intermediary platforms, and 51.6 percent use their own website or app. Comment: without your own door, customers come through someone else’s bazaar.
E-sales in small firms
The e-sales rate among enterprises with 10 to 49 employees is 16.4 percent. Comment: for a small business, the internet is more often a place to be found than a place to sell. Customers find you on the phone and buy in the shop, so being visible comes before selling online.
Where are the shopkeepers left out of the table?
BU BÖLÜMÜN ÖZETİ
- Micro businesses are not in this survey
- The price of being invisible is lost customers
- Measure the rate on your own street
According to TÜİK’s SME statistics, in 2024 SMEs make up 99.6 percent of all enterprises and 68.5 percent of employment. The digital survey, however, only counts firms with 10 or more employees. The digital report card of the shopkeeper standing alone at the till does not appear in the official table.
Micro businesses are not in this survey
Businesses with 1 to 9 employees fall outside the ICT survey. Comment: “one in two businesses” should be read as an optimistic estimate for neighbourhood shops.
The price of being invisible is lost customers
If customers are not walking through the door, they often cannot find you where they look. What visibility means, and its three layers, is covered in our piece on online visibility.
Measure the rate on your own street
If there is no official figure, make your own. Search your trade on the map, open the first 9 competitors and count how many have a website and an up-to-date profile. Comment: this 10-minute count shows the gap in your neighbourhood more clearly than the TÜİK table.
Say you run a patisserie with four staff in Avcılar, İstanbul. You are not in TÜİK’s table, yet every evening your customers search “patisserie near me” on their phones. The competitor with a website and a profile appears before you in that search.
What do these numbers mean for you?
The numbers say three things: half of small firms have no website, social media has overtaken the website, and few sell online. For a business without a site, the first step is the Website Recipe; for one with strong social media but weak sales, the Meta Ads Recipe; for one offering a service people search for, the Google Ads Recipe makes sense.
Which recipe closes which gap
The Website Recipe sets up a sales page, Google Business Profile and visitor tracking. The Google Ads and Meta Ads recipes set up ads and conversion tracking; the ad budget is paid separately. The wider frame is in our digital marketing packages guide.
What may change next year
